The AIM Vitality Trio Nutrition for Seniors
7 oz. Barleygreen, 30 Coenzyme Q10 capsules, and 60 Ginkgo Biloba tablets
As we grow, our nutritional needs change. We all understand that newborns have different nutritional needs than children, and that teens and adults have yet other nutritional needs.
And although nutritional recommendations for older adults often are extrapolated from those of younger adults, there is growing awareness that older adults may have different nutritional needs. AIM has always realized this, and to help senior citizens find an improved quality of life, has put together the new AIM Vitality Trio_nutrition for seniors.
It combines Barleygreen, Coenzyme Q10/Cellsparc Q, and Activated Ginkgo, three
products that the older-but-wiser segment of the population may find especially beneficial.
AIM Barleygreen®
AIM Barleygreen® provides a well-balanced range of important nutrients. Dr. Yoshihide
Hagiwara, the creator of Barleygreen, says, "My research has shown that the green
leaves of the embryonic barley plant contain the most prolific balanced supply of nutrients that exist on the earth in a single source." This is important, as many older adults find that it becomes more and more difficult to get all the nutrients the body needs. This is partly because, as we age, we tend to consume fewer calories. This may be due, at least in part, to a decline in our metabolic rates. And of course, if we eat less, we take in fewer of the nutrients we need to help us stay healthy: proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and amino acids.
AIM Barleygreen® is rich in these nutrients. It contains many vitamins, including vitamins A, B1, B6, and E; the minerals potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and zinc; and amino acids, enzymes, and chlorophyll. It also contains a new antioxidant, 2"-0-GIV, which is believed to be a more potent antioxidant than vitamin E.
More important than the individual nutrients, however, is that they come from the barley plant in natural proportions. This is what attracted Dr. Hagiwara to barley leaves_a vision of totality, not individual pieces: "Barleygreen should not be recognized by discussing the amount of its vitamins and minerals. The era of focusing on a single vitamin or mineral is gone, much more attention is being focused on the biological phenomenon."
Recent trends confirm this philosophy. There have been nearly countless reports on
"phytochemicals," which are a group of substances found in plants which may have health benefits. Some people speak of isolating individual phytochemicals to create a convenient "miracle pill"; others, like Dr. Hagiwara, believe that extracting a specific ingredient could destroy the delicate balance of nutrients and phytochemicals that nature put in every plant. When you use a single extract, you may have to use several other extracts in strict proportions to maintain the "total" benefits the plant may have.
The answer, of course, is to not consume a lot of extract products, but to eat more fruits and vegetables; and, according to the National Cancer Institute, you should be getting five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day. This, of course, is not easy for anyone, and can be even more difficult for older adults. And the answer to this is AIM Barleygreen®, a salad in a glass.
Coenzyme Q10/Cellsparc Q
Coenzyme Q10 is the spark_the ignition_that creates energy at the cellular level. The body naturally contains coenzyme Q10, but as we age we are unable to produce as much of it, and our supply diminishes. When this happens is not clear. Studies indicate that our bodies notice the absence of coenzyme Q10. If we do not have enough of this "energy spark," our bodies cannot do all that we ask of them. According to Emile Bliznakov, M.D., in The
Miracle Nutrient Coenzyme Q10, the decrease of coenzyme Q10 is especially noticeable
when we might need its benefits; for example, when fighting off heart disease.
As of 1994, there have been some 2,500 research studies on coenzyme Q10_studying its
effect on heart functions, blood pressure, the metabolic rate, and gum disease with most of them focusing on heart disease, perhaps because the heart contains the largest natural amount of coenzyme Q10 in the body. Studies in the United States and Japan have shown that people with different types of heart disease have less coenzyme Q10 than those with healthy hearts. The researchers' conclusion is that taking coenzyme Q10 may provide the
heart with more energy to help itself. AIM Coenzyme Q10 / Cellsparc Q provides you with this spark of energy.
AIM Activated Ginkgo
The third member of the AIM Vitality Trio is AIM Activated Ginkgo. Ginkgo has a long
history of use in herbal medicine, and research supports many of the traditional uses of the herb.
As of 1993, some 400 scientific reports had been published on ginkgo. These include in vitro and in vivo studies as well as clinical applications. Ginkgo has been studied for many different reasons, among them its effect on circulation and oxygenation, its antioxidant abilities, and its inhibition of PAF (platelet activating factor).
Ginkgo appears to stimulate circulation by working to make blood vessels and red blood cells more flexible, thus making it easier for blood to wind its way through the body. This increased circulation also may be one reason why ginkgo has shown results in preventing blood clots and improving memory (the brain needs more oxygen than any other organ in the body).
Ginkgo also is recognized as an antioxidant. Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are "renegade molecules" that damage cells and may contribute to cardiovascular disease, aging, some forms of cancer, arthritis, and other health conditions. According to Jos Kileijnen and Paul Knipschild in the British medical journal The Lancet, "In vitro studies have shown the G biloba extract has free-radical scavenging properties." They go on to state that the flavonoids found in ginkgo (quercetin, kaempferol, and rutin) seem to be responsible for the antioxidant properties.
Finally, one of ginkgo's terpenoids_ginkgolide B_appears to interfere with PAF. PAF has been implicated in asthma, graft rejection, and other immune disorders. All of these factors could be beneficial to older adults. Free radicals may contribute to many of the health problems that traditionally have been considered "degenerative," and more flexible arteries could contribute to healthier arteries and mental alertness.
Although many people who live in the United States are not aware of ginkgo, it is
well-known in Europe, and in Germany is licensed for the treatment of conditions often associated with old age: cerebral dysfunction with, for example, symptoms of memory difficulties, dizziness, tinnitus, headaches, and emotional instability with anxiety.
The AIM Vitality Trio, AIM Barleygreen®, AIM Coenzyme Q10/Cellsparc Q, and AIM Activated Ginkgo will help you get the nutrients you need.
